The H2 Recorder isn't the best recorder on the market but it's competing with pro models selling for three times as much. It's quite small (2.5 x 4.3 x 1.3 inches) but this Zoom Recorder is equipted with double the microphones as it's competitors. There's a couple reasons why lots of them are being sold.
Pricetag:
When it first came out it sold for a few hundred bucks but today you can get it for well under $200.
Some favorite features...
Best all-around bang for your buck
Unique 360 degree 4 mic capsule feature
Small in-your-hand size - small in-your-wallet price
The disappointments are:
Screen is a little small.
It's audio limiter reacts on the slow side.
On a better note, the H2 Zoom Recorder is able to record many different resolutions of both MP3 and WAV audio. But when you do want to record top quality audio for an important project it's there @ 24-bit/96kHz. You can save a ton of memory and record at an mp3 resolution setting.
H2 Zoom is for:
1. Anyone that wants to record seminars & conferences
2. Amateur & professional media people
3. Blog Podcasters
4. Fans at musical performances
5. Sessions for songwriters
6. Musicians rehearsals
7. Theatrical rehearsals
retroactive] look of the front grill on the H2 recorder, kinda looks like an old forties microphone. key] and useful features for most people, and even some cool, but not-so-important ones... love] the handy guitar tuner and metronome that are built-in.
It can be hard to edit on the small screen... but you can just plug it into your computer via the USB and edit away.
What they call the W-XY mic patterns, 4 mics and signal processing allows Front 90 cardioid, Rear 120 cardioid and 360 polar patterns.
Now that's the Zoom Recorder's unique multi microphone feature we're talking about, the 4 mics that can produce various kinds of surround sound recordings. You could for example place the H2 Recorder in the centre of a rock band and get a nice surround sound mix with the kit in the rear and bass and guitars all around.
To complete this H series of small hand held recorders are Zoom's H1 which is the little brother with less features and a lower price tag and the big brother of the three being the H4 Zoom digital recorder.
I'm confident that this little digital recorder will give you the results you need and more.
